The breed is originated in rural Hungary, on the wide plains at east of the Danube. In some texts is tried to document the origins of a race since pre-medieval times which is very ambitious and disproportionate. A particular breed of dogs and is selected and bred for a particular purpose. Without this purpose that directs the selective breeding (that preserves the desired qualities), there is not such a race but a morphological type associated with a geographic region.
In the case of Vizsla the objective that create the primitive vizsla and its characteristics, is found in the rural Hungarian nobility and his love of falconry, where it is needed a Hawker dog to lift the game.
The crosses among Hungarian falconer (now extinct) with Turkish yellow dog (now extinct) and the Hound of Transylvania (in recovery since 1968) give us the old Vizsla type, a dog agile, active, golden yellow, versatile for hunting and tireless tracker..
 Transylvanian Hound
It is in the nineteenth century when is introduced German Short-haired pointing dog and English Pointer blood, the type of hunting practice had changed with the introduction of firearms and now you want a dog, which track, mark the position of the pieces and retrieve when necessary.
It is at this time when we can talk about the Vizsla as we know it nowadays, a hunting dog able to track, point and retrieve, and it´s excellent for any type of small game in fields or water. It´s crazy for hunting but even more for its owner.
To preserve and promote this magnificent animal was created, in 1924, the Magyar Vizsla Klub setting the current morphological type. And the race is recognized by the FCI (of which Spain is a member) in 1936 with Standard No. 57 with the name of Rövidszöru Magyar Vizsla (Hungarian Short-Haired Pointing)
There is another vizsla variety with wire hair obtained using Drahthaar crosses too.
The Vizsla is an affectionate dog which loves be with its owner and stay close to him all the time, it doesn´t like loneliness or be isolated, so in spite of it´s a hunting dog it doesn´t develop properly in a doghouse. It´ll be the more balanced and fast to learn the more will be the contact with its owner.
Vizsla is sociable and outgoing, it believes that every human being is good and worthy of love. It effusively greet complete strangers, therefore, it is NOT a guard dog, it can make a tremendous scandal just by a squirrel and keep sleeping when a stranger comes.
They are playful throughout their lives and perhaps this aspect of eternal puppy makes them more attractive. It is an easy-to-train dog, it wants to please his owner and be rewarded. It´s NOT a dominant or aggressive dog, a too severe training can bring out the less desirable faults of the breed: shyness, highly-strung, hyperactivity, extreme submission.
It is a breed with a high level of activity that requires one or two hours of exercise a day, while this requirement will be fulfill it can adapt to life in a flat perfectly. He gets along well with other dogs, males or females and it can live with dominant breeds without any issue, It can adapt to living with cats if you are firm from the start.
And vizsla usually loves children, but you must be careful with the little ones because vizsla is a very energetic dog.
